Luminance Signal - Y Luminance Signal - Y
Luminance - Y is the part of a video signal that describes the amount of light in each pixel. Luminance is equivalent to the signal provided by a monochrome camera. It may be generated as a weighted sum of the RGB signals in accordance with the formula: Y = 0.3R + 0.5G. + 0.11B. Luminance is differentiated from brightness in that the latter is non-measurable and sensory. The color video picture in-formation contains two components: luminance (bright-ness and contrast) and chrominance (hue and saturation). Luminance is the photometric quantity of light radiation.
